Hey everyone. Rough times these days, am I right? I wanted to share a relatively simple way to make a handmade face mask to help protect yourself from Covid-19. I designed this pattern myself after watching a lot of videos and playing around with different ideas. I chose to not use elastic because it seems to be very difficult to find these days with so many people sewing masks! I also really wanted to make a pouch for a filter, as well as a wire at the nose so that it can be better formed to fit to my face.
***UPDATE***
Apparently the folds are supposed to fold down, not up like I did in the video. Quick fix for this: I mention having the top of the mask (part with the wire) on top and folding it down, ironing, then making the tucks that way. At this stage, instead of the wire part being up on your ironing board, rotate your fabric so that the bottom of the mask is up and do the tucks in the exact same way (this way they will end up going in the opposite direction). This is how actual surgical masks look. It's a very quick thing to change around - just do exactly how I show in the video, but turn your fabric when you start.
Stay safe out there, friends!!!!!
