Chiamaka Madu, a third-semester student at the AUA College of Medicine, talks about why she chose to study in this Caribbean medical school. Chiamaka is a national achievement scholar with a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona.
Chiamaka says, “People like to question, ‘Do Caribbean schools have the same amount of support?’. This school really does a good job of putting you in contact with the people who can help you; from your advisor to your tutor, to the professors who are all too happy to help. Of course, the most important thing is your own personal motivation. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it, it’s not. The curriculum that AUA currently operates under is called Curriculum Next. It’s really an integrative program dedicated to self-based learning, which is really great for our profession, because we really are the ones who will depend on ourselves and our team.” She goes on to talk about her first two semesters and campus life.
