I hope everyone was looking forward to seeing my CN Zebra stripes again because they are back. Today on the ER&W railroad both CN GP38-2W's are pulling another 50 car ore train. Today the train is heading westbound on track 2. We set up our cameras at eastside station to hear the units in run 8 as the start the climb up the 1.8% grade. We then quickly race to Tunnel Junction Station to film the train on the decent of 1.7%. This grade will be constant all the way to Titan Junction. Just prior to coming into view you can hear the K5LA if the lead unit blowing and its soon drowned out by non turbocharged 645 engines. We notice that the train is moving a bit faster then normal on the decent down and word over the radio was that even though the brakes were set the load of the train was pushing the units. These units don't have DB brakes so they are using nothing but brake shoes to help slow the train. Well finally with most of the train on flatter terrain it slows a bit more. But the train will have to make a stop at the town of Tipton to have 2 more units added as helpers for added braking and the 2% climb to the Titan branch. It would have been nice to film this section but it would have been to dark to see the train so we called it a day.
