These are a couple of Chinese Type 88 Hanyang Rifles. These firearms are sometimes incorrectly referred to as a Mausers.They are actually a Chinese adaptation of the German Gewehr 88 rifle. Cosmetically they do resemble a Mauser but the action is all 1888 Commission Rifle. Century has the rifles listed as being chambered in the old bottlenose Patrone 88 cartridge (8x57J) but from what I've read these rifles can be found with a standard 8mm Mauser chambers as well, although shooting full power 7.92x57mm in these is probably not good idea in general. The Chinese used these rifles hard for more than 70 years. They saw action in the Boxer Rebellion and both World Wars. The rifles show that use. They are busted up, rusty, and shot out. As others have shown with some work they can be cleaned up and restored quite nicely. I think these will make a great project guns for the small price Century is asking even if you never get a shooter out of it.
