Some historical Monuments of Lucknow | Uttar Pradesh | India | Sixty and Travelling
Lucknow, the capital city of the State of Uttar Pradesh in India, is home to some really popular historical monuments. We visited some of these historical monuments like, Bara Imambara, the Clock Tower, Rumi Darwaza and the Residency.
We first went to the Residency and it's sprawling beautiful campus in the middle of city took us by surprise. During India's first war of independence in 1857, Residency saw lot of military action between British India army and Indian freedom fighters. The tell-tale signs of mortar shells fired by freedom fighters hitting the walls of Residency can be seen even today, and they fill your heart with tremendous pride remembering the sacrifices of these freedom fighters.
From Residency, we headed towards Bara Imambara in Old Lucknow. What an amazing, in fact stunning, structure is Imambara. But unfortunately, we had to be content only with an outside view, because videography was not permitted inside Bara Imambara. We spent quite some time absorbing it's grand huge structure and intricate art work on walls. We also visited the nearby Rumi Darwaza, another huge beautiful structure rising very high right in the middle of a rather busy road. Our last stoppage in this trip to Old Lucknow was the very tall and imposing Clock Tower.
The history behind these wonderful structures left us with a sense of national pride about our rich cultural heritage.
