This is why you need a powered USB hub when using the older CCK to connect multiple USB devices to your iPad or iPhone. It's actually something I get asked about a lot. There's nothing more anti-climatic than getting one of those " Accessory Unavailable " pop-ups when trying to be productive on iOS, yet it's something we have to deal with quite often. Then there's the " Accessory may not be supported " one too. So I am also going over the most common dongle connection error cases and I am also explaining why I recommend using the Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter, over the Camera Connection Kit aka CCK.
