When someone finds themselves entangled in a trauma bond with a narcissist, it's not uncommon for them to experience several instances of being discarded by the same individual. This cycle is all too familiar to many of us: a pattern of being discarded, followed by a period of reconciliation (often referred to as "Hoovering"), only for the cycle to repeat itself. Given my understanding of this topic, I feel compelled to share my insights on the nature of the discard, especially concerning when it truly comes to an end. To put it bluntly, the only definitive end to a narcissist's cycle of discard comes when you decide it does. However, there are various scenarios worth exploring to address the questions many of you undoubtedly have regarding the finality of a narcissist's discard.

Now, let's focus on the concept of being discarded by a narcissist. Imagine you're facing your first discard. It's a new and unsettling experience, but you're fairly certain that you've been involved with a narcissist. By this stage, you're likely aware that these emotionally abusive relationships typically unfold in three stages: the idealization phase (also known as the love-bombing phase), the devaluation phase, and finally, the discard phase, which is our main topic today.

Before delving deeper into the first discard scenario, it's important to clarify that not all narcissists follow the pattern of discarding their partners. If you've recognized that you're in a relationship with a narcissist and are anxiously awaiting the proverbial "other shoe to drop," it's possible that it may never happen. That said, the majority of narcissists are prone to discarding their partners. This tendency stems from their habitual boredom and their pattern of cycling through relationships as one might cycle through cell phones.
