SPIES RELOCATED
The UK has relocated some of its spies after Russia and China decrypted secret documents leaked by former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden. Government and intelligence officials stated the documents revealed information as to how the agencies operate, but added that no spies have been harmed. Snowden has been in Russia since leaking the NSA documents in 2013, an act he says was aimed at protecting "privacy and basic liberties." In the past, Snowden had stated that "no intelligence service" would be able to crack the files.
TBILISI FLOODING
8 people have died in flooding in capital Tbilisi. Flooding is centred in Vake and Saburtalo neighbourhoods. The flooding has hit the city’s zoo, causing several animals to escape. Some have been found or killed, but many still roam the city.
ANTI-GOVERNMENT PROTESTS
Thousands of demonstrators have protested against President Rafael Correa’s proposed tax changes in Guayaquil, including an increase to inheritance tax.. Anti-government protests have been held in the country since June 8th. On June 11th, counter-protests were held in capital Quito. There, supporters of the ruling PAIS Alliance party held a rival protest, calling for Correa’s re-election.
NY PRISON ESCAPE
A prison worker who allegedly helped two convicted murderers escape from a New York state maximum security prison is in custody. Joyce Mitchell allegedly gave Richard Matt and David Sweat the tools they used to escape from their cell last week. Mitchell has stated she had planned to pick the men up and drive them to a destination seven hours away from the prison, but did not go through with it. Currently, more than 8 hundred officers are searching for Matt and Sweat.
