About Gihan Fernando
Gihan Adrian Camil Fernando, famously known as Gihan Fernando, is an acclaimed actor, playwright, and singer. He works in the Sri Lankan cinema, television, and theatre. He was born on 30th August 1967 in Galudipita village in Ragama. He got educated at De Mazenod College, Kandana. He excelled in his studies and stood out as a soccer player. He was employed for a few years after he completed his education. During his employment, he studied much about theatre under numerous foreign directors through the British Council. He attended a workshop by Jayalal Rohana with a fellow actor, the late Asela Jayakody.
They both got blessed to get an opportunity to act in Rohana's stage drama, Bhoothawesha. He performed in several stage shows under the late Somalatha Subsinghe, K. B. Herath, Rajitha Dissanayake, Ravindra Ariyaratne, and Dharmapriya Dias. He acquired the Best Actor Award at the Youth Drama Festival for his act in Royston Jude's play Rangahala. His initial television acting came over Hiru Kumari, directed by Nalan Mendis. Besides Kumara Thirimadura, Fernando engaged in a stage play Giha Saha Kuma.
He has worked in various television serials like Adaraneeya Amma, Sihina Genena Kumariye, Sihina Genena Kumariye, Makara Dadayama, etc. He began his film career with a minor role in Seeruwen Sitin, directed by Winston Ajith Fernando. Some other films made by him are Ko Mark No Mark, Kawuruth Danne Na, President Super Star, etc. He spoke for the radio teledrama Channa Kinnaravi on Hiru FM and Paradige on RanOne FM. He arranged a theatre festival named Ma Dakina Mama to express joy for the silver jubilee of his theater career in 2016. It was held at the Lionel Wendt Theater Colombo. He currently runs an acting school named Hit Act in Bambalapitiya for the new age group.
