OMG-did you spill water on your laptop?
There's no time to cry. According to Digital Trends, you should act fast if you want to fix it. Time is of the essence.
Digital Trends steps to save your laptop after a spill include:
1. Turn it off and disconnect the battery.
They explain, "Do not bother to take the proper steps to turn it off, either – go ahead and press that power button until your machine shuts down"
2. Take out all components that are easily detachable. This includes unplugging your mouse, all cables, removing flash drives and DVDs.
3. Examine all removed items and check for wetness or corrosion. Dry wet parts. If you spilled any other liquid that water, use a cotton swab with 99 percent isopropyl alcohol to remove gunk without causing damage.
Digital Trends adds, "Water is the least corrosive, while sugary and alcoholic liquids are the most harmful. Either way, the goal is to mitigate their effects as much as possible by drying the computer immediately."
4. Dry the outside of your computer, open your laptop as far as it goes, hold it upside down, and wipe dry any wet surfaces with a towel.
5. Allow your computer to air-dry for two to three days in a warm, dry area.
