Depending upon your definition there are approximately 31 rural hospitals in New Zealand. These hospitals provide a varying level of care, from rehabilitation and palliative care through to acute medical and surgical treatment. This presentation will focus on how rural hospitals differ from their secondary and tertiary cousins along with the challenges and opportunities for treating deteriorating patients in a rural/remote setting.
