Michelle had won Miss Malaysia in 1983 and entered the Hong Kong film industry in 1984.
Michelle starred in many popular movies including Yes Madam, Police Story 3 Super Cop, Tai Chi Master, Wing Chun, Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
In 2023, she became the first Asian to win an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
