This video is aimed at GCSE chemistry (triple science) students. It covers the addition reactions of unsaturated molecules (alkenes). The reactions covered include: hydrogenation of alkenes to form saturated molecules. Examples of hydrogenation include the hardening of vegetable oils.
The addition of the halogens chlorine, bromine and iodine to unsaturated alkenes is discussed along with the use of bromine water in testing a substance for unsaturation.
The hydration of alkenes using steam to form alcohol is discussed and some examples are given.
