Megan and Lauren share strategies and distance learning tips you can use to help your child with learning at home. Learning right now is different for teachers, parents, and students, whether elementary school, middle school, or high school level. You're likely finding yourself adjusting to how you engage with school, technology, and each other. To help you - we are sharing three tips for distance learning for parents and guardians can use to talk to your students, give your students the space to learn, and set students up for success in a distance learning environment
This video is part of our distance and hybrid learning parent support series.
Tip # 1️⃣ : Ask your child specific questions about their remote learning day and check-in with them at the beginning of their day. At the end of the day, ask them how their virtual learning went over the course of the school day. This helps students better plan and prioritize their schoolwork.
Tip # 2️⃣: Provide opportunities for your child to work and play independently to solve problems. Use the 15/45 rule to start with 15 minutes of your focused attention and 45 minutes of self-directed play or learning. Remember, you don't always have to create activities as a parent or guardian; teachers are providing students with educational and creative tasks that align with the virtual learning curriculum.
Tip # 3️⃣: Create a system so your student can work independently while online learning. Try to schedule a check-in for one-on-one support during the day and ask your student to write down questions they have before you meet. Use an organizational system like color-coding or checklists so students know where to get their supplies so it doesn't disrupt their remote learning.
