» Dr. Vivek Monteiro is the State Secretary of CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) for Maharashtra and joint coordinator of the Trade Union Joint Action Committee in the state. With a background in theoretical physics, he earned his BSc from Bombay University, MS from Caltech, and PhD from SUNY Stony Brook, USA. His activism began during the anti-Vietnam War movement in the USA, and upon returning to India in 1974, he became a full-time trade unionist in 1977. Dr. Monteiro is also involved in the people’s science movement and has received awards for his contributions to math and science education, along with being a member of the Maharashtra state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
