Warm-season gardening means tomatoes, peppers, melons, and all of the other delicious things. It also means an uptick in pests and diseases.
Here in San Diego, powdery mildew is a part of gardening. We try to keep it at bay for as long as possible and manage it when it does show up, but it's going to happen at one point or another.
Like squash, melons can get powdery mildew. Like squash, one way we try to stop on top of it is by trimming old growth and removing excess leaves. This opens up the plant for more airflow which can help keep the plant healthy for as long as possible.
Always pay attention to plant spacing. It's tempting to squeeze as many plants as possible into your gardening area, but overcrowding is a real thing!
