For patients with metastatic stage IV breast cancer, there is a great deal of controversy regarding whether there is any benefit in terms of survival for resection of the primary tumor. In this video, we examine data from the three randomized controlled trials to date (the Indian trial, the Turkish trial and the ECOG 2108 trial) with regards to the benefits (and potential harms!) of surgery for metastatic disease.
