The GeoPackage file format has, in large parts of the world, now overtaken the Shapefile as the default geospatial file format - for many reasons. But of course no file format is perfect and there's always something we might want to edit ourselves and with gpkg it's sometimes the layer name of the file that we want to edit. So, if you've ever wondered why your layer is showing two slightly different names in the Layers Panel - or indeed if it just says 'Output' as the layer name, take a look at this video.

Why do I typically use gpkg instead of shp these days? Mainly because gpkg is one file rather than 3, 4 or more like the old shp. I don't mind the shp, but I prefer gpkg because I don't really like file bloat.
