This poor female Allen's Hummingbird came in at dusk while I was filming back in March, 2018. Her upper beak appeared to be broken right at the base, possibly due to a head-on crash with something, making it nearly impossible for her to close it properly. In spite of this, it did look like she managed to get some nectar out of the feeder, although getting her beak into the small, bee-proof hole proved difficult. She did manage to fully insert it a couple of times (not filmed), and of course this wouldn't be a problem with most natural nectar sources. I never saw her again after this visit, and her fate is unknown.
Filmed in Santa Clarita, California with a Sony FS-700RH high speed camera at 240fps, rendered here at 24fps resulting in a 10x slower than real life play back.
