SCENE
Wilson applauds as the people he ruined exits the stage, but Addison resumes his complaint which leads into an argument until a loud BOOM is heard -- the San Francisco earthquake. Mama becomes ill and Addison takes care of her in his apartment while Wilson goes on to have more exploits and promises to visit every Sunday. Addison tells Mama that he's been working for weeks on a surprise for her, which turns out to be planning out a house for her.

This song doesn't have an equivalent in the reading or in Bounce, though the same thing essentially happens, with Wilson never coming to visit while Addison takes care of Mama. Bounce does make a nod to Addison's designing the house in "I Love This Town." In Road Show, the phone calls are built into "That Was a Year," but Addison is also trying to get Wilson to pay a commission fee for the pool house he built, which follows along with the intent to make the story more about Addison's fraught relationship with Wilson.
"A Little House for Mama" was mainly cut for holding up the scene, which is a fair point but also a shame. It especially wouldn't work for Bounce or Road Show as well, since the competition over Mama isn't as prominent. The way that Road Show was able to combine the purpose of "That Was a Year" and "A Little House for Mama" into one song was probably a better move over all, but also, I really like this song, both for how well it expresses Addison's pure love for Mama and because of "Put them all together, they spell 'moth.'" I am easily amused.
