As food banks across Ontario and Canada face unprecedented demand, food insecurity is growing, particularly among low-income families and those on a fixed income. More and more must make the agonising choice between paying rent or putting good food on the table as the severity of this hunger crisis grows. Food security is a critical issue in the face of skyrocketing food prices and economic instability. For many, budgeting and food prep isn’t enough, food banks and food pantries now play a vital role in meeting basic needs. As the cost of living crisis continues, inflation and supply chain issues mean food prices are leaving some hungry. However, communities are coming up with innovative solutions to feed Ontario, from vertical farming to pay-what-you-can-afford grocery stores.
