On a clear day, the hike to Dege Peak will give you amazing 360 degree views! It's listed as an easy / moderate hike, and is well marked, starting from the Sunrise Visitor Center on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park. It's 2 miles one way with a 600' elevation gain.
I was fortunate to go on a clear day in October, just before the road to the area closed for the season. After I had a wonderful look around I headed back along the Sourdough Ridge trail to the Huckleberry Creek Trail. I was hoping to check out the Forest Lake Camp, but once I descended to about 6,000' elevation the forest got very thick and I didn't see any reason to continue by myself and with no views, and possible black bears in the area. So, I took a lunch break along the trail and then headed back up to the ridge and back to the visitor center. I was happy to explore a bit in the basin and see the top area of the Huckleberry Creek Trail.
Thanks for joining me!
