The Toyota Mirai is an Electric car but powered by a fuel cell instead of getting power off the grid. The on-board fuel cell takes hydrogen and oxygen and through catalyst process makes electricity. The advantage of a fuel cell car like the Mirai is it takes roughly the same time to fill the fuel tank as a conventional car and the range is over 500km. The next generation Mirai fuel cell electric car was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show and is a rear show stopper. With a 30 percent improvement in range, plus built off a new RWD platform, the next generation Mirai will certainly turn heads. The current Mirai fuel cell electric car is for sale in Canada and for use in fleets. There are currently two public filling stations in BC with more to come, plus one in Quebec City. The idea is to deliver cars clustered around hydrogen filling stations. In fact, over 3000 Mirai cars are on the road in California and closeted around filling infrastructure.
