5G : Transport Network
Transport network connects the different nodes and subnetworks in the telecom infrastructure.
QOS in 5G Transport - Depending upon the applications/services to be provided to user at RAN end there are different user plane delays/latency, capacity, distance required in Transport Network.
- URLLC (Ultra reliable low latency) services at radio required 0.5ms user plane delay and to deliver that, at Transport network (at Fronthaul) user plane delay required is one fifth of it, i.e. 0.1ms
- eMBB(enhanced mobile broadband) services at radio required 4ms user plane delay and to deliver that, at Transport network (at Midhaul) user plane delay required is one fourth of it, i.e. 1ms
- mMTC(massive Machine to Machine communication) services at radio required 15ms user plane delay and to deliver that, at Transport network (at Backhaul) user plane delay required is three- fourth of it, i.e. 10.5ms
Note : Microwave connectivity has limitations in terms of distance and capacity in comparison with Fiber but still it is used in some scenarios as it is financially viable option for telcos.
