SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- One person was sent to the hospital Tuesday morning from injuries sustained during an apartment fire in Spokane Valley.
The Spokane Valley Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Manor Vale Apartments on Main Avenue off Herald Road and Sprague Avenue about 5:45 a.m.
The fire was upgraded to a second alarm. Firefighters were able to enter the unit and put out the fire. During a search, no people were located inside, but two dogs were found deceased.
SVFD says a ladder at the back of the complex was used by people to escape the fire. One resident suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The fire was contained to the original unit, but there was significant smoke and water damage to adjacent units.
The Red Cross is helping those displaced.
The cause is under investigation.
