A 37-year-old man wanted in connection with an "intentional" hit-and-run crash on the 4th of July in Commerce City turned himself in to police and now faces numerous charges, including assault.
Around 10 p.m. that night, Commerce City police said, a group of people were walking through a field in the 7000 block of East 64th Avenue to watch fireworks when a driver intentionally hit two men in the group.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Commerce City Police Department, a relative of the victims said that they had gotten into an argument with the suspect, identified as Jose Noe Ulloa-Martinez, as they walked from a nearby home to the field for the fireworks. One of the victims later told investigators that during the argument Ulloa-Martinez became "enraged" and walked away from them.
Once the victims were in the field, the family member said Ulloa-Martinez drove up onto the sidewalk and into the field and struck both men from behind. She said Ulloa-Martinez then drove off northbound on Pontiac Street, the affidavit says.
In an update on Facebook, police said the victims are brothers, and are expected to recover. One of them was treated and released from the hospital. The other suffered a fractured right shoulder and left ankle as a result of the crash.
The vehicle involved was recovered the night of the crash in Aurora and an officer observed a dent in the hood. It was towed for processing. On Wednesday, police announced that Ulloa-Martinez had turned himself in.
