Qasim Suri dismissed the no trust motion Prime Minister Imran Khan
Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker on Sunday rejected the no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan, and declared it unconstitutional.
Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri dismissed a no-trust motion against embattled Prime Minister Imran Khan, terming it against Article 5 of the Constitution.
Suri chaired the crucial session after opposition parties filed a no-confidence motion against Speaker Asad Qaiser.
Pak minister Fawad Hussain in National Assembly said,"Unfortunately, this is an effective operation for regime change by a foreign government."
Pakistan PM Imran Khan said,"I have written to the President to dissolve the assemblies. There should be elections in a democratic way. I call upon the people of Pakistan to prepare for elections," after the National Assembly was dismissed.
“I congratulate every Pakistani on the Speaker's decision. The no-confidence motion was a foreign conspiracy against us. Pakistan should decide who should govern them," the PM said in his address to the nation after the no-confidence motion against him was rejected in thePakistan assembly.
The Opposition parties need 172 members of the 342-member National Assembly to orchestrate the defeat of Khan and already they have claimed the support of 177 members, more than the needed strength to oust the prime minister.
The combined opposition filed the no-confidence motion on March 8, setting a set of events leading to the day of voting and rise in the tension due to Khan’s insistence that he was being targeted as part of the “foreign conspiracy" with the collaboration of top opposition leaders.
