PM Narendra Modi, who was on Thursday at the receiving end of opposition sloganeering over Adani during his speech in Rajya Sabha, tried to remind the regional parties how the Congress used to trouble them in the past with Article 356. Article 356 deals with the imposition of President's rule in states. "Indira Gandhi 'misused' Article 356 of Constitution 50 times to dismiss elected state governments," PM Modi said in his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Upper House.
Taking a dig at the regional parties for standing with the Congress, PM Modi said, "Look at history, which party and people in power misused Article 356 the most? Elected governments were toppled 90 times, who were those who did that? A Prime minister used Article 356 fifty times, and scored a half-century and that name is Indira Gandhi. In Kerala Communist government was elected which wasn't liked by Pandit Nehru and was toppled."
