Welcome to the next assignment for STUDIO117 Distance Learning!! Below you will find all the information needed to complete this assignment. If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to contact me here or via Remind with any questions you have.
Part 1 - INSTRUCTION:
Watch the provided instructional demo video review on Abstract Art & Surrealism. In this video, we will review the basic traits of artwork or illustration that is deemed abstract or surrealistic. As with previous assignments, the video will model how to access the assignment website and submit you work for a grade. The video file is titled: DL03_ABSTRACT_DEMO.mov. There 'should' be a link at the end of these instructions.
You can also view this video in the STUDIO117 Distance Learning Google Classroom where I have also included a PDF my Keynote Presentation slides from my lecture that launched our Abstract Wacom Illustration project earlier this semester.
Part 2 - ASSIGNMENT:
Just as we did on our Wacom Tablet assignment prior to Spring Break, I want you to pick a song or even an, entire album by one of your favorite musical artists and Illustrate the musical and lyrical concepts in an abstract and/or surrealistic style. The drawing needs to be drawn in your sketchbook, but if you don't have access to your sketchbook, or never acquired one, feel free to do your illustration on any material you have access to.
Remember, the main difference between Abstract and Surrealism is that Surrealism IS rooted in some sort of reality but it's just exaggerated or altered... Abstract art can be rooted in reality, but it doesn't have to be. Basically, when we blend the two styles together... ANYTHING GOES! Make sure you utilize all of the available space... basically, fill the entire page. Also, create a sense of depth by utilizing the foreground, mid-ground and background. Size the elements of your drawing accordingly to create a true sense of depth. I show examples of this in the demo video. The main goal here is for you to have fun, take a break from technology, and get creative!
Part 3 - DELIVERABLE:
To receive credit for this assignment, simply take a pic or a screenshot of your drawing and upload it into the Class Drive folder for a grade NO LATER THAN 3pm FRIDAY, APRIL 17. If possible, rename your screenshot file as follows: 'LastName_FirstInitial_ABSTRACT. The instructional video will go over these steps as well. Most importantly, have fun!
You will receive two grades for this assignment 1) a daily grade (weighted at 60%) for logging in and reviewing the materials. 2) a test grade (weighted at 40%) for uploading a screenshot of a well-developed illustration.
PS. Just a quick reminder about cheating... there's a good chance I will catch you if you try to steal someone else's screenshot. First and foremost... I have a photographic memory. Secondly, I'm going to cross reference creation/modification dates & times with files sizes, as well as, preview icons. When an anomaly is discovered... I'll dig deeper. If you get caught, you and the person you stole from will both receive zeros for all grades associated with this unit. With that said... do your best and then try again and see if you can do even better!
