House of Commons Speaker John Bercow launched an astonishing tirade against Geoffrey Cox today, accusing him of 'cheap abuse' after the Attorney General refused to apologise for strident criticism of Remainer MPs.

The Speaker tore into Mr Cox from his seat in the Commons after the Government's top lawyer refused to apologise for claiming it was a 'dead Parliament' and MPs had no right to be in it.

Mr Cox lashed out after rebel cross-party MPs tied the PM's hands over a No Deal Brexit with a radical new law designed to force him to seek an extension if he cannot get a deal with Brussels.

SNP MP Hannah Bardell called on Mr Cox to apologise for his remarks, to which he replied 'Certainly not, I stand by every one of them.

'When this Parliament assumes its responsibilities to pass a Withdrawal Agreement then I might reconsider them. But certainly not at the moment.'

This prompted Mr Bercow, who has lost his usually booming voice, to croakily interject.
