When ghostly, high-energy particles called neutrinos, interact with Antarctica’s ice, they produces radio waves.
Those #radiowaves are picked up and recorded by the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna or #ANITA. It floated beneath a helium balloon at an altitude of 37 kilometres for about a month collecting radio waves from neutrinos passing through the Earth.
It crashed near Siple Dome #DeepFieldCamp in 2010. Our crew assisted a recovery mission. The payload and antennae elements were disassembled transported back to the states.
Apparently they were reused for another go around.
