Frankel Functional Regulator is an orthodontic functional appliance which was developed by German orthodontist Dr.Rolf Fränkel in 1950s for treatment to patients of all ages (more so for adults In Orthotropics). This appliance primarily focused on the modulation of neuromuscular activity in order to produce changes in jaw and teeth
In case of skeletal discrepancy of the upper and/or lower jaws we should start the treatment earlier than 11 for girls and 13 for boys before the growth of the bone get completed
Postponing the treatment in some cases leads us to unwanted and aggressive treatment options in the future, such as extractions of some teeth or jaw surgery, in other hand, and the most important thing is that postponing the treatment in some cases has serious consequences for general health, as the issue is not related to the facial appearance only, as in this case, which is considered one of the most widespread problems is a regression or slow growth of the lower jaw as the posterior position of the lower jaw makes the airways narrow and thus the child gets less oxygen in important stages of his life, and the delay of the lower jaw growth may be a cause or a result of a defect in the lower facial muscles, and this will lead in the cumulative period to a general defect in the muscular system of the body and will cause a bend in the neck and a curvature in the spin.
In general, it is preferable to examine children by an orthodontist at least once between 7-10 years, even if there is no apparent problem for the parents
