Arish lime plaster technique gives a extremely smooth, shiny, water proof and crack-free finish. It is a traditional method of plastering followed in different mansions of Rajasthan. It is mainly used for interiors and for decorative purpose as it takes a lot of time (7-8hrs of burnishing) to complete these plasters. I have used it for the kitchen area near the sink and the stove.
Arish lime plaster recipe :
1 part marble dust
1 part pure lime (Shell lime)
pigments if needed
Note:
Using pure lime can cause skin burn
1) Prevention : Rub your hands with unrefined castor oil before starting to work with lime
2) Remedy : If you already have lime burns, apply castor oil over night on burns and in the morning warm the burnt areas over fire. Repeat this steps for 3-4 days and you can gradually see the burns healing.
Thanks to the entire team from Sacred grooves for teaching me the plastering method in detail. Do visit their space in Auroville to understand and learn more on natural buildings.
