Before becoming an announcer and Vince McMahon's sidekick in the WWF, Lord Alfred Hayes made a name for himself as an accomplished wrestler and, later in his career, a pompous heel manager in both AWA and NWA. Although he was a heel manager in Florida, Hayes still wrestled occasionally. When this match occurred, Hayes was 52 years old.
Also, at this time fellow heel manager Sir Oliver Humperdink was serving out his 30 days in the hole as Dusty Rhodes' valet. With Hump out of the way Hayes took control of Hump's men. This led to some interesting developments when Hump's 30 days were up.
