More exotica from master orchestrator Legrand. He directs his baton at Tabu attributed to Ernesto Lecuona's niece Margarita. Legrand takes the tune on a bongo belting itinerary with dazzling strings and swooping voices or should that be swirling strings~ dazzling voices etc.? anyway you get the drift adding to a south American Latin mix the vinyl should have been in worse nick~ I put it through the wringer in the 1960s before replacing it with spanking up to date stereo version but the attractive cover remained . Another standout track from always welcome Strings on Fire album . Nowadays I'm at the other end of Ifcopod channel occasionally returning to base. Strings on Fire album still as good as any of its ilk
Cool classical elegance with capacity to excite and surprise where others opt for competent mundanity ~ doing the unexpected has been a Legrand trademark Other arrangers vied impressively Legrands albums of their type are the finest from the era There was a vogue in the late 50s early 60s for stereo albums showing off new stereo medium. Some were good but many got caught up in ping pong stereo possibilities went over the top.Legrand's albums always had music to the fore For brilliance and inventiveness were well ahead of the posse. In the 60s I wore out Legrand vinyls playing over and over. Strings on Fire was a special favourite.
