The Real Reason Lake Mead is Rising
Rain has caused the water level at Lake Mead to rise and despite falling over 25 feet since the beginning of the year, lake mead has gained over three feet in elevation since the end of july. This marks one of the lake's sharpest increases in recent years, and many people are wondering how long the increase will continue.
But first we need to understand what all is causing it to increase. There are several things, but the primary reason was a wave of rain storms, which brought a significant amount of water into the lake. Additionally, the lake has seen slightly less evaporation, and more water from the colorado river has been making it to the reservoir.
This usually doesn’t occur because states along the colorado river often take more water than they are supposed to, and the sun often is able to beat down continuously on the lake causing a lot of evaporation. In recent weeks this hasn’t been the case, but sadly, it won’t last long. As the rain season comes to a close, the lake will continue its decline and the increase we saw will rapidly disappear. A lot more is going to be needed, to offset the losses of a multi decade long drought. If you haven’t already, please press the subscribe button.
