We’re celebrating Father’s Day this week on Embroidery Hub by showing you how to embroider a silk tie that you can sell in a special gift bundle. Using the HoopTech clamp to complete this project, Willy will also show you all the necessary materials, share digitizing tips, and offer advice on pricing product bundles.
Bundling products is a great way to increase value and maximize profit potential by a wide margin. The perks of a bundle are that you can sell multiple items at once and push more product. The items in this bundle are cheap, especially at wholesale. It would be harder to sell these items individually, and it would cost your customer more because you would build in your profit margin per item, rather than building in your profit per 1 bundle.
You can push more product and your customer saves some money. In addition, the presentation is easy to sell as a polished gift, great for all special occasions and holidays.
Interested in creating the bundle featured in this video? Here's how:
We purchased a set of 6 ties with matching handkerchiefs and cufflinks for $37.99 from Amazon.
This means that one individual tie, handkerchief and cufflink set is roughly $6.30.
The white dress shirt was purchased from Ross and cost $7.99
Stabilizer costs for this project is 25 cents.
Thread costs 50 cents.
Total cost for blanks and supplies = Roughly $15.
You can sell this personalized set anywhere from $30 to $45 per set, meaning the profit will range from $15 - $20 per bundle!
What you'll need:
1 HoopTech clamp
1 sheet of tearaway stabilizer.
Wash-away stabilizer for topping
75/11 needles
For this project, we decided to showcase the HoopTech clamp, but you can also use the 8-in-1 device for the same results. We highly recommend these specialty accessories for hooping oddly shaped items. You can find links to these products below.
We also recommend using your extended table to help hold up the rest of the dress shirt since we are only embroidering a small design on the sleeve cuff.
**Since this design is relatively small, we suggest lowering the density of the design in the digitizing process and tightening the tension of the bobbin to compensate.
Now, once you have you clamp installed on your machine, open the clamp and place your tearaway stabilizer. Next, place your tie with the tip closest to the machine. Then, place your water-soluble stabilizer right on top of the tie and close your clamp. This will help avoid puckering and keep your design from sinking into the delicate fabric.
Once the embroidery is complete, carefully remove any excess topping with a bit of warm water. You can repeat the same process for your sleeve cuff.
Now you have the perfect gift set to add to your shop—and we’re sure it will become a bestselling bundle!
