Today, we're diving into some exciting news from Eurobike 2024 in Frankfurt. The renowned drone manufacturer DJI has ventured into the e-bike market with their first powerful mid-drive motor, the Avinox. This new development is set to shake up the e-bike industry with impressive specs and innovative features.
DJI is already a technology powerhouse known for their reliable and high-performance drone motors. Now, they're bringing that expertise to the e-bike market. The Avinox motor boasts a remarkable peak torque of 120 Nm and can deliver up to 1000 watts of peak power in Boost mode. Even in normal mode, it provides 105 Nm of torque and 850 watts of power, which is more than its main competitors like Shimano and Bosch.
The Avinox system is paired with proprietary batteries available in 600 Wh and 800 Wh capacities, offering substantial power and autonomy. These batteries are notably lightweight, with the 800 Wh battery weighing just 3.7 kg. For comparison, a similar capacity battery from Bosch is significantly heavier.
One standout feature of the Avinox is its advanced connectivity. The system includes a 2-inch OLED touchscreen display integrated into the bike's top tube, complete with GPS, a barometer, and multiple connectivity options like 4G LTE, ANT+, and Bluetooth 5.1. This display allows riders to track their routes, monitor heart rate, and even charge larger devices through a USB-C port.
The Avinox motor is controlled via two wireless remotes mounted on the handlebars, allowing riders to easily switch between five support modes, including an automatic mode that adapts to the riding conditions. There's also a Boost mode that provides maximum power for short bursts, perfect for tackling tough climbs.
To showcase their new motor, DJI has partnered with a newly established bike brand, Amflow. Amflow's debut eMTB models, the Amflow PL and the PL Carbon Pro, are equipped with the Avinox system. The PL features a carbon frame with 160 mm front and 150 mm rear suspension travel and houses the larger 800 Wh battery for extended rides. The PL Carbon Pro is a lighter option, weighing just 19.2 kg with the 600 Wh battery, ideal for riders looking for a nimble and powerful eMTB.
DJI's entry into the e-bike market with the Avinox motor and the launch of Amflow bikes marks a significant development in the industry, promising cutting-edge technology and enhanced riding experiences.
