Rock Aid Armenia , também conhecido em estágios iniciais como Live Aid Armenia , foi um esforço humanitário da indústria musical britânica para arrecadar dinheiro para ajudar os afetados pelo terremoto de 1988 na Armênia .
Iniciado pelo ativista internacional de caridade Jon Dee, o projeto compreendeu uma série de singles, compilações e um documentário. Uma gravadora especial Life-Aid Armenia Records foi estabelecida para produzir e distribuir os lançamentos da Rock Aid Armenia.
Todos os projetos da Rock Aid Armenia foram coordenados por Jon Dee. Dee iniciou o projeto após supervisionar a transmissão via satélite de filmagens da zona do terremoto armênio, que ele distribuiu para redações de TV em todo o mundo. Outros membros importantes da equipe incluíam o produtor de cinema Paul Lovell (que produziu e editou o documentário Smoke on the Water e que foi coprodutor executivo de " Smoke on the Water "), Phil Banfield (empresário de Ian Gillan que ajudou na faixa) e Peter Welles-Thorpe, David Highton, Isobel Sarkissian e Sarah Kaye da Rock Aid Armenia.
O projeto é mais lembrado por uma regravação do famoso hit do Deep Purple , " Smoke on the Water ", com diferentes vocalistas cantando cada verso. O single chegou ao UK Top 40 Singles Chart . A faixa foi gravada por um grupo de elite de músicos contemporâneos de rock progressivo , hard rock e heavy metal que se reuniram no histórico Metropolis Studios em Chiswick , Londres . A gravação começou em 8 de julho de 1989 e foi concluída em 5 sessões diferentes.
