Protesting against the killing of two Moreh youths at Tamu (Myanmar), the residents of Moreh today hold mass rally at Moreh town. The protest rally was held around 2:50pm of July 6. The protesters were seen holding placard – We “Want Peaceful Coexistence in Moreh and Border Areas”, “Stop killing Indian Civilians” and other slogans.
Before holding the mass rally, trouble erupted at Moreh police station around 11 :40 am, after irate mob storm Moreh PS pressing the police to retrieve the bodies from Tamu, Myanmar.
Incensed mob who are waiting for the dead bodies at border, begun to destroyed and torched border outpost of Myanmar military near Sunrise playground. The mob also pelted stones towards Myanmarese canp. The latter retaliate and injured two protesters in the process.
Strong force of Moreh police and 5 Assam Rifles rushed the spot and put the situation under control.
Later in the evening, leaders of the Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Meitei Council Moreh, Manipur Muslim Council Moreh, All Community Development Organization Moreh, Tamil Sangam Moreh, Gorkha Samaj Seva Samiti Moreh, submitted a memorandum to chief minister of Manipur through Additional Deputy Commissioner, Moreh.
In the memorandum, the community leaders stated that P Mohan (28 years), S/o of Perumal of Gamnom veng, Moreh W/No. 2 and M Aiyarnar (35 years), S/o Muruga of Phaicham Veng, Moreh Ward No. 4 were brutally murder by Pyu Shaw Htee – an armed associate of Myanmar military government at Tamu, Myanmar on 5th July.
The community leaders strongly condemned the atrocities and terrorism perpetrated by Myanmar military government on innocent civilians and demanded Manipur chief minister to initiate immediate necessary formalities with his counterpart in Myanmar to hand over the dead bodies within 24 hours and pay ex-gratia to bereaved families of the deceased.
The community leaders also cautioned the government that they will resort to any form of agitations if their reasonable demands are not met in time. They also warned that the state government will be held responsible if similar fate occurred on Myanmar citizens in Indian side of the border.
