Take the Browning A5 hunting shotgun, and replace the recoil operation for gas operation, and you essentially have the Beretta A300 Ultima.
Take that same A300, and change the furniture, and you essentially have the A300 Ultima Partol.
We wanted Beretta 1301 Tactical, and got the version we have at home.
It's not bad, it's not a non-recommend, but it is time to temper expectations.
This shotgun fills a niche at a reasonable price, but it just didn't quite live up to the hype for me.
Beretta has used semi-auto shotgun design stemming from the 1800s, mixed it with their hunting gas system, and put some tactical trim on it. Yes, it does come in under $1k, but it's not a steal at that price.
It's a perfectly good shotgun which flawlessly cycled both slugs and birdshot with no adjustment for me.
After using a chronograph, I found that you do not give up much velocity with a 19.5" barrel, so the benefits may well be worth it.
Couple that with a short barrel which actually accepts chokes (Beretta/Benelli Mobil-Chokes) and you have a pretty flexible option.
All that remains is to see if police actually adopt these, and how they stand the test of time with heavier use, and less care.
This is just a quick-shot opinion after only (4) sessions with he gun: one to zero the red dot with slugs, one to pattern chokes, and two shooting sporting clays. All-in we're only at ~225 rounds, but it's enough for someone with over a decade of shooting experience to get a flavor and share with you before you make any quick purchase decisions.
With 12ga ammunition costing anywhere from $0.35-$1.50 or more per shell, we'll leave it to the real channels to do a 5k round review.
