Spaceship Earth tells the story of humanity’s discovery, domination and ruination of our home – and of the birth of the monumental 21st century effort to redirect the ship.

Since the revelation of Spaceship Earth by the famous photograph taken from the Apollo spacecraft 50 years ago, scientists have had a new perspective on the planet as an integrated life system.

Their research in recent decades has proven that humanity now has a global influence on life conditions that is so negative we face the prospect of a massive extinction. Our good fortune, though, is that the disaster looms at just the same time as we have developed the navigation tools to understand what is happening.
