Bible Meaning of the Tree of Life
Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Tree of life today
Our tree of life is Jesus Christ, granting us immortality through His defeat of death on the cross. Because of the ancestral sin of Adam and Eve, we now have the knowledge of good and evil and the free will to choose between the life-giving Christ or the deadly pursuit of selfish passion. Christ resurrected the tree of life by His cross and granted everlasting life to mankind once again. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24 KJV)
To eat of the tree of life now is to follow Christ by bearing our cross in repentance and love for God.
