Choosing your first lizard can be a difficult decision; there are many hundreds of species available, but not all make the best pets. In this video, I discuss which out of leopard geckos, bearded dragons, and crested geckos I feel is the best lizard for beginners to the reptile hobby. (These are each hobby mainstays.) Of course, much of an opinion is down to an individual's preferences: if you really like bearded dragons, there's not much point in getting a leopard gecko just for the sake of someone else arguing that they are the best pet reptile for newcomers. Still, it remains that there are some better choices than others. (Please don't start out with a tegu!)
In discussing which out of the three best lizards for beginners is the true king of starter reptiles, I take into account different aspects of their care, including their tameness, diets, enclosure requirements, cost, and a range of other factors. As I say, though, the decision is really up to you - you could even decide to start with a different species of reptile entirely! Whatever the case, do take some time to think when you choose your first pet reptile. Provided that you do, you will end up with an amazing pet that will be with you for years to come.
