The 5 key Differences between Google Nest Hub and Hub Max
If you’re considering a Google Nest smart speaker with a screen device, you’re choosing between Google Nest Hub and Google Nest Hub Max. While these devices look pretty much the same, and do a lot of the same basic smart home functions, they do have several key differences.
I’m Erin TCG.com and we’ll take a look at what those difference are and a bit about the devices. If you want to see full detailed reviews of either the Nest Hub or Next Hub max, they’re on the channel here too or at TGC.com.
First up, a smart speaker like Google Home or the Google Nest devices are kind of like digital butlers. No matter which model you choose, one with a screen like these two, or one without like a Google Home or Google Nest Mini, you can listen to music, get voice control over your smart home devices, ask questions you’d otherwise type into Google, you can ask for alarms, times and recipe conversions, facts or jokes, or listen to news, weather, sports and podcasts all by just asking your Google Assistant.
Let’s zero in on what sets Google Nest Hub and Google Nest Hub Max apart. There are 5 key differences.
Difference #1 : Size
It may seem obvious when they’re side by side, but these two are different sizes. The Google Nest Hub has a 7” screen while the bigger Google Nest Hub Max has a 10” screen, so their full physical dimensions are different too. Google Nest Hub is obviously better for smaller spaces like bathrooms or kitchens while Google Nest Hub Max takes up more real estate.
Difference #2: Speakers
The speaker configurations on these devices are slightly different. As you’ll hear in my full reviews, both sound great on their own merits; the speakers are definitely good quality. On the Google Nest Hub you get a single speaker with a 40mm driver. On Google Nest Hub Max you’re getting a bigger and more powerful stereo speaker with 2 18mm tweeters and a 75mm subwoofer for better bass.
Again, if you’re listening in a smaller space, the Hub will likely be just great. If you need the sound to carry and fill up a room, go for the Hub Max.
Difference #3: camera & Nest Cam
This is a biggie. The smaller Google Nest Hub has no camera in it. The Google Nest Hub Max does have one, meaning you can use it to make video calls using google duo if you want. But the big thing with this camera is it’s also a Nest Cam. This is a built in security or surveillance camera that lets you peek into your room any time you want when you’re away from the house to see what’s going on. The Nest Cam is available only with Google Nest Hub Max.
Difference #4: available colours
This one is probably less important but the range of colours offered in the Google Nest Hub and Google Nest Hub Max are different. The Google Nest Hub comes in 4 colours, some of them brighter and more fun, while the Google Nest Hub Max is only available in grey or black.
Difference #5: price
Finally, this is where the rubber hits the road for some of us. Price. There’s a significant difference in price for these devices. Google Nest Hub sells for $169CAD regularly while Google Nest Hub Max is $299. Depending on your budget, your choice may be easy.
Those are the 5 key differences between Google Nest Hub and Google Nest Hub Max.
