CINCINNATI (WKRC)- Hundreds showed up for an afternoon rally at the Hamilton County Courthouse Saturday.
Among the many people at the rally were plenty of teens and children.
"I'm here, as a single mother, bringing my black sons down here because this is what they need to see," Markeshia Smith, a mother of two said.
Smith says she's brought her boys to several rallies.
"This is just the first one they've been to in regard to George Floyd, but I went to one last week," Smith said.
Smith says she talked with her 14 and 11-year-old boys about what happened to George Floyd before coming to the protest.
"Once I talked to them and showed them the video, they got very, very angry and shut down. They didn't want to speak about it because they were so angry. So, I waited and said, 'Do you have any questions or anything?' They said 'No.' But they were just still angry," Smith said.
Toward the end, everyone went silent for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. The amount of time the Minneapolis Police Officer had his knee on George Floyd's neck.
Smith's oldest son, Anton Williams, has been to several rallies.
"I'm here because I don't like the way that the police officers have killed George Floyd and I like that everybody is coming together in peace," Williams said.
Smith hopes Saturday's rally will get the boys to ask questions.
She hopes what her children see and hear will help them spread the message of solidarity.
