10.24.2019 | 1:40 PM | LOS ANGELES - A fire named the "Tick Fire" exploded to nearly 4,000 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations, Thursday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the reported fire burning in the 31600 block of Tick Canyon Road in the Canyon Country area around 1:40 PM.
Crews arriving on scene located a 200 acre fire burning rapidly and began efforts to attack the blaze.
Due to heavy winds and unprecedented heat the fire quickly exploded to nearly 4,000 acres burning multiple homes in the process.
As of 9:00 PM only 5% of the blaze was contained and more than 500 firefighters were on scene worked to stop the fire's spread.
Over 50,000 residents were under mandatory evacuations and many large animals including horses were being removed from areas threatened by the fire.
It was unclear if any injuries to civilians or firefighters had been reported.
