To commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Paraguay, President Tsai rolled out the red carpet to welcome the Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes at the Presidential Office. The two leaders reaffirmed the friendship and continued partnership between the two countries, and signed a reciprocal visa-waiver agreement as well as an economic cooperation agreement.President Tsai welcomed Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes with a 21-gun salute today, and together they inspected the tri-service military honor guard.The sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations, it was also President Tsai’s first time welcoming the Paraguayan head of state since she took office. Tsai Ing-wenPresidentThroughout the years, Taiwan and Paraguay have supported one another internationally. The collaboration and cultural, economic and educational exchange between our two countries has never once been interrupted. President Cartes spoke of the long history of the relationship, starting from when the Nationalist government arrived in Taiwan in 1949. President Tsai was also pleased to announce that prior to his arrival President Cartes had signed an executive order to waive visas for Taiwanese citizens entering Paraguay. In the spirit of mutuality, Taiwan has also signed a visa-waiver agreement for Paraguayans, which is effective immediately. Apart from this, the two heads of state also signed a Taiwan-Paraguay economic cooperation agreement.
