Microsoft has just announced the release of new Windows 10 21H2 and 21H1 builds for Insiders in the Release Preview channel.
Until now, there was little difference between the 21H2 and 21H1 builds in this channel, but the just-released 21H2 build 19044.1200 finally enables the three new features that Microsoft detailed for the Windows 10 21H2 update back in July. If you're still on the 21H1 version of Windows 10 in the Insider Release Preview Channel, the update is available for "seekers".
PLEASE NOTE that this 21H2 preview build is ONLY available for Insiders who were moved from the Beta Channel to the Release Preview Channel because their PC did not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11.
This update includes the following new features as mentioned in John Cable’s blog post for Windows 10, version 21H2 last month:
● Adding WPA3 H2E standards support for enhanced Wi-Fi security
● Windows Hello for Business introduces a new deployment method called cloud trust to support simplified passwordless deployments and achieve a deploy-to-run state within a few minutes
● GPU compute support in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) deployments for machine learning and other compute intensive workflows
Known issue:
● The Windows Update settings page may hang after you download an optional update. Close and reopen the Windows Update settings page if you encounter this.
To check and see if you’re running Windows 10, version 21H2, just type “winver” into the Windows search box on the Taskbar. It should show as “Version 21H2”.

SAY HELLO TO WINDOWS 10 VERSION 21H2!
The all-new 21H2 build should now be available via the “seeker” experience in Windows Update. Windows 10 version 21H2 will bring three new features related to Wi-Fi security, Windows Hello, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux.
For other, "ineligible" Insiders already in the Release Preview channel who can’t opt in to installing the Windows 10 21H2 build today, Microsoft also has a new 21H1 build for you. This new 21H1 build and the 21H2 build will both appear as the same KB5005101 patch in Windows Update, and they include the same list of fixes.
IS WINDOWS 10 VERSION 21H2 A MINOR OR MAJOR UPDATE?
Windows 10 version 21H2 will be another minor update that will install just like a regular cumulative update.
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEW FEATURES!
Microsoft will have more to share on future Windows 10 updates in the future, but Windows 10 version 21H2 will also serve as the basis for the next version of the Windows 10 Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC), which will get five years of support. Windows 10 version 21H2 for Home and Pro users will only get the regular 18 months of support, with Microsoft providing 30 months of support for Enterprise and Education users.
THE FUTURE OF WINDOWS
Windows 10 will be coexisting with Windows 11 in the next couple of years, with Microsoft being committed to support the now six years old OS throughout 2015. If Windows 10 users with compatible PCs will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free, Microsoft won't be leaving behind the more than 1.3 billion monthly active devices on Windows 10.
