John F Kennedy was the youngest ever elected president of the United States - brimming with health and vitality – at least that’s what he wanted people to believe.
In reality he had the most complex health history of anyone to occupy the White House and was taking a crazy cocktail of medication including steroids, barbiturates, opiate pain killers and testosterone before descending into the complete madness of Dr Feelgood’s amphetamine injections.
This video explores the shocking, but little known medical history of JFK and asks the question of what all those pills and injections could have done to the mind of the man with his finger on the nuclear button.
Finding Out More:
Some of JFK’s medical records can be seen online at the JFK Library. Robert Dallek’s biography John F. Kennedy: An Unfinished Life 1917-1963 is a well-researched and detailed conventional biography that describes a lot of JFK’s medical problems. However, Richard A. Lertzman’s book – Dr Feelgood: The Shocking Story of the Doctor Who May Have Changed History by Treating and Drugging JFK, Marilyn, Elvis, and Other Prominent Figures is a fascinating read even if it seems a little far-fetched at times.
